Obsessed: An Ode To Keira Knightley

I'm very much in love with Keira Knightley.  Last night I saw Begin Again at the beautiful Angelika , her latest flick, also starring Mark Ruffalo who was weirdly charming.  Basically KK is dating Adam Levine and they're songwriters and then he turns out to suck and Mark Ruffalo realizes she's really talented and they record an album outside, all over New York City, which was super cool.  The movie wasn't phenomenal but I really enjoyed it.  Keira sang, which was adorable.  See?

Also, I'm usually not in love with her style but in the movie she looked beyond adorable in a "Brooklyn Baby" sort of way.

LOOK HOW CUTE SHE IS

Also I just want to mention that she was in New York the other day promoting this movie and she wore this and I cannot get enough of it.

Style Icon: The Evolution of Taylor Swift

Those who know me know how much it breaks my heart to say this, but it's true.  She always looks f-cking incredible.

It really wasn't that long ago that small town 17 year-old Taylor Swift dressed horribly.  When she had that horrible kinky hair and always wore blue glittery eye shadow with cowboy boots.

Then she presumably got a stylist and turned 18 and figured out that it wasn't okay to dress like that and cowboy boots are horrible.  She grew up a little bit and straightened her hair and stopped dressing like she was going to her prom in Tennessee.  And things started to turn around.

Now, she's a rock star.  No pun intended.  She's mastered the casual jeans look.

She's mastered the business casual look.

She's mastered the fun flirty look.

She's mastered the casual sophisticated urbanite look.

She's mastered the Kate Moss meets Keira Knightley look.

Then the red carpet looks started to change.

Then, things got realllllly good.  And Tay went from being a typical teenage Nashville resident to being chic as f-ck.

Good job Taylor, you've come a long way.

Trend Alert: Bugs

Is it just me or are bugs everywhere this spring?  No, it's not just me.  Jewelry, clothing, accessories, shoes, everything is covered in bugs.

Personally, I don't love it and I wouldn't wear bugs all over my clothes because I hate bugs, but if you do I won't be mad.  But what is the right amount of bug?

1. Don't overdo it.  Nobody likes bugs, they're gross.  So do your best to make it look like there aren't hundreds of bugs all over your body.  Try these McQ leggings with a plain top or this Bob Mackie top with jeans.

2. Start with something small.  If you're reticent to try this trend, take it slow.  A cuff or earrings would be good.  Try this Insect Wing Bangle from Neiman Marcus.

3. If you're afraid to take the plunge with the clothes, opt for a clutch or scarf.  Try this Lizzie Fortunato 'Buzz Safari' clutch.

Top Prioritiy: Instagram

I basically hate everything in the world except instagram.  Before you judge me on that, think about how many pictures you've seen on instagram.  Zillions.  Of anything you want.  It's fantastic.  But there are a lot of people to check out and how do you know which of the million pretty people you should follow? Don't worry, I've unfollowed all of my friends to dedicate my entire instagram life to interesting people.  So let's discuss who's worth stalking.

Models: My bff says following models is stupid (but he follows Cara Delevingne and her endless stupid quotes) and I kind of agree but here are a few I think are worth it.

Karlie Kloss (@karliekloss)- I like Karlie.  She posts a lot of model-y stuff but also some food/life/exercise/family stuff so it's not just her.

Grace Mahary (@gracemahary)- She's just like, wicked pretty.

Poppy Delevingne (@poppydelevingne)- Like Cara, but with no stupid quotes.  Plus she posts a lot of pictures with Cara so she's still in my life.

Style Bloggers:  These are probably the best people to follow on Instagram.  You get a lot of pictures of food they didn't eat, parties they attended, and clothes you can't afford that they somehow do despite not having a real job.  Pretty good stuff.

Christina Caradona (@troprouge)- Just genuinely beautiful without appearing to be trying too hard.  She's right on the edge of annoying because she's so effortlessly beautiful but she's just too cool to cross over.

Aimee Song (@songofstyle)- This chick lives a super glam Los Angeles based life and while I don't generally enjoy LA style, she's pretty fabulous.

Blair Eadie (@blaireadiebee)- Her style isn't my personal favorite but I think she does a good job of posting interesting pictures, not just her in front of the mirror every day.  Also she seems like someone you'd like to know in real life.  Sorry Blair, this is an awkward way to tell you I have a crush on you.

Designers and Shops:

Anthropologie (@anthropologie)- I feel kind of stupid wasting this on Anthro but I just really love their instagram account.  It speaks to the chic 30-year old in me who wants to grow up and buy an expensive salad bowl.  Whatever, shut up.

Joie (@joie_clothing)- Kind of vintage-y, kind of California-y, very cute.

Revolve (@revolveclothing)- the most eclectic and fun, not a lot of clothing but if you want to see pictures of clothes follow Saks.  (Seriously follow Saks @s5a)

Important People:

Alexa Chung (@chungalexa)- DUH.

Leandra Medine (@manrepeller)- She is super weird and adorable and fun and hilarious.  Follow her!

Katherine Power (@katherinepower)- She's one of the founders of Who What Wear.  There are lots of pictures of flowers, shoes, and pretty people.  Check her out immediately.

This is Hillary Kerr, the other founder of WWW

Thanks to instagram, you don't need to do anything in real life, you can watch other people do it (and do it chicly) and never leave your home but it doesn't rot your brain like TV does.  Enjoy!

What's New: Computers and New York

After about 2309432409348 days of not having a computer (just picture that for a second- it's horrific), my faithful Mac has been returned to me and now I'm returning to you gays guys.

In other news, I've since moved to New York and am now a living breathing Brooklynite.  I'm working on blogging every day/adding some interesting thing about my life here but trying not to be completely self-involved.  Soooo, to be continued but I will leave you with this.

Top Priority: Oscars (Dress Success)

Now, because I've been pretty negative all day, let's talk about the good stuff.  The lovely dresses that made me smile and moved me to tears.

Jennifer Lawrence in Dior
Yeah, you look good.  Yeah, you're wearing the same dress you wear all the time.  Yeah, I'm over it.  Next.

Sandra Bullock in Alexander McQueen
Yep.  I love this.  She's so beautiful and this year she's kind of bummed me out with some of her choices but this is golden.

Meryl Streep in Lanvin
You are a goddess.  Totally age appropriate but not boring.  Very chic as always.

Jennifer Garner in Oscar de la Renta
I don't care for her but she looks great.  The dress is kind of boring but I like it.  Very 1920s.

Julie Delpy by Jenny Packham
I just like her, you know? She just seems like a lovely person.  So I may not be evaluating this dress objectively but I like it.

Idina Menzel by Vera Wang
I love this.  It's simple yet elegant.  I like the color and the jewelry.  I know a lot of people are wearing basically this exact dress but there's something about this that's very understated and chic.  Love it.

Jessica Biel by Chanel
Another Oscars surprise was Jessica Biel's dress.  It's been so long since Jessica Biel has done anything that I'm pretty sure her first and last acting job was 7th Heaven, but she now works as Justin Timberlake's beard (which is probably a pretty good gig.)  But last night she surprised me and looked stunning.  It was probably the Chanel that did it.

Kristen Bell by Roberto Cavalli
Kristen Bell is so overrated in my book that it's almost too much for me to handle.  But this dress looks incredible.  Despite the fact that it looks like she's about to get married, she absolutely brought her A game.  Good job, Kristen Bell!

Penelope Cruz by Giambattista Valli Couture
Flawless.  Simple, chic, feminine, gorgeous.

And now, without further adieu, my top three favorite dresses from last night...

3. Kate Hudson in Versace
I never thought I would say this but Kate Hudson looks incredible.  As someone I not only find overrated and annoying but completely talentless, I want to hate her.  But she killed it.  Good job, Kate.

Charlize Theron in Dior
Not only is this one of the most gorgeous dresses at the Oscars, it's probably the sexiest.  And she's so talented.  And beautiful.  A+

Lupita Nyong'o in Prada
It wasn't long ago that no one had an idea who Lupita was.  Now no one will ever forget her.  Not only did she come out of nowhere and blow everyone away with her acting, she has mastered Red Carpet style in one season.  This is one of my favorite dresses of all time.  She looks absolutely gorgeous.
