Top Priority: Vogue Loves Malaika Firth

Okay THIS IS A HUGE DEAL.

Malaika Firth is growing in popularity after she walked in Prada's 2013 Fall Show as well as being the face of Prada (the first model of color since Naomi Campbell in 1994).  Which is massive on its own.

But now she's also going to be gracing the cover of Vogue.  Offfficailly it's the fashion supplement of the November issue of Vogue UK but we'll take it.  The issue also includes a feature on Malaika.

Vogue has caught a lot of flack for a lack of black women on their covers, so this is a massive step in the right direction.

Also she's only 19.  Which is f-cking nuts.  Congrats, Malaika!

Obsessed: Mirrored Shades

So a month ago ish my best gay friend came to visit and we went sunglass shopping (obviously).  We are loyal Ray Ban shoppers so he got an updated version of the Clubmaster that are a little more square on the bottom.

Who cares.  Anyway I bought a pair of mirrored aviators and they are DOPE.  Actually Ray Ban called them "Flash Lenses" which is maybe the coolest thing ever.  I love them because I have worn Ray Ban aviators since I was in 9th grade but they're updated so I'm not bored.

More importantly, I've seen a bunch of people wearing them, including my only fashion-forward heterosexual male friend, so that's a good sign.  So if you're into spending $150 on sunglasses, do invest in a pair of Ray Bans.
Get Like Me: Aviators
Bolder: Cats
Folding: Wayfarers

Other good options include Carrera, which come in a zillion colors, or  Gargyle, which are a little more expensive but certainly unique.

So go rush out and buy a pair immediately.  And make your friends get some too so you can look at yourself all the time but no one can yell at you.

Footnote: Another amazing thing about these is they discourage "selfies" because you can see the person holding the phone in the picture which looks stupid and then everyone knows that person has no friends to take pictures of them and it's all terrible.

Trend Alert: (Faux) Leather Skirts

This is wicked popular right now and I'm not crazy about it but we can talk about it anyway because you should always be up-to-date.

From the runway to celebs to fashion bloggers, this trend is huge.  Sometimes it can be cute and sometimes not.  Anyway we'll go over how to wear it and wear you can get one, etc.

The Mini- If you have great legs, do this immediately because it looks hot.  A good way to balance out the "tough-ness" of the leather is a softer top- a t-shirt or (cashmere) sweater will work perfectly.  For daytime, wear with sandals while you still can or booties. At night- the higher the heel, the better.
BUY: ASOS

The Pencil- Wearing a flowy colorful top can help balance out the shape of the pencil skirt nicely.  If you want to dress, it down, a graphic tee works.  Pair with pumps, or flats if you're less hardcore.
BUY: Topshop

Fit and Flare- Something simple should go on top- a t-shirt or tank this time of year would be perfect with a cardigan.  This would be a good time to wear tights under your skirt if you're interested.  Wear this with simple shoes oxfords or booties.
BUY: BCBGMaxAzria

Pleated- Go for classic and keep it simple with a button-down, preferably in a solid color but pick whatever color you want.  Pairing this with combat boots looks unique.  And badass.
BUY: Piperlime

So go forth and wear leather.  Keep it vegan!  Just kidding I don't care.
